City Guide Berlin - our agency history
Before we founded City Guide Berlin a number of tour operators have always offered generic city tours, as well as some theme tours which tourist can book on regular scheduled departures in large tour buses, often with multi language commentary.
When we founded City Guide Berlin we had a different idea, we wanted to offer more than the ordinary. We had gathered a lot of information regarding service on business trips throughout the world. Our idea was to incorporate this knowledge into the service we wanted to offer to our prospective clientele.
After much research we founded our agency in 1999. At first we concentrated on individual guided tours in Berlin which would offer more than the average bus tour. We had contracts with five hotels which we had thoroughly inspected, and with whom we had established special rates. Our tours were custom tailored to a clients wishes and interests. Of course, the prices were higher than those offered by the bus tour operators, but then we were able to offer a product that could not be found elsewhere.
As our business grew we began to book many guests from other countries, thus we made contracts with knowledgeable guides who were fluent in a foreign language. Furthermore, a number of unique one-of-a-king theme tours were added and we expanded our hotel list. For the most part, the hotels we offer will not go into our inventory until we have inspected them peronally. Unusual theme tours such as "Napoleon's Battle Grounds in Berlin", "Berlin and its Medieval Past", motorcycle tours, exclusive old-timer tours, tours offering the cuisine of our region, and out-of-the-ordinary sightseeing tours are just a few examples of the many different tours we are now offering, be it for one person or for ten.
In the past years we got to know not only most of the hotels in Berlin and surroundings, but also in other parts of Germany and Europe, many which we included in our international hotel offer. As our business grew, we made it a point to give each person the individual attention we feel only a private tour can offer. Our clients tell us their interests and the time they want to spend on a tour (3-hour minimum) and we present a few outlines from which the client can pick. This sort of service has made our business what it is today. An agency offering individual tours on a private basis, fine hotels at reasonable rates and sightseeing that is beyond the everyday offers.
Our 37 guides are fluent in more than 20 languages. When we began to hire guides, we thoroughly checked their knowledge before making contracts with them. Today we can be confident that our clients will be well served by our guides.
