FEIR LOVE CIRCUS

SAYONARA TOKYO – Geishas! Tamagotchis! Edelweiß!
Showtime: July 12, 2017 to February 11, 2018 Start: Wednesday to Saturday 8 pm (Sunday 6 pm)
Premiere: July 19, 2017 Director: Stephan Prattes musical director: Jo Roloff Choreography: Hakan T. Aslan
The extravagant culture, art and music of the Land of the Rising Sun has always inspired artists of all genres. Against this backdrop, the director, theatre maker and stage designer Stephan Prattes will produce a visually stunning variety show on the stage of the Wintergarten Berlin from 12 July 2017 onwards: SAYONARA TOKYO is a very special, an opulent, a Japanese feast for the eyes!
The Japan Variety Revue is novel mix of fabulous acrobatics, exciting entertainment, Japanese music, original vocals and modern dance from faraway Japan and a dream come true for our stylists Susanne Burkhardt and Brian Grosen as well as for our stage designers around Stephan Prattes. Innovative, crazy shapes, opulent detailed outfits and stylings and superb-exotic acrobatics – anything goes: there are no limits to imagination. Be it the free and unconventional interpretation of a past Japanese era or the detailed reflection of the Japanese present – hypermodern, multimedia and contrary to customary viewing habits. This moves the (Japanese) culture and the audience. Because “Japanese are different” – and unique! In particular, our Japanese artists insist on that. Anybody who has experienced the show, knows: “Different” is definitely understated.
The mix of costume and scenery, Japanese culture and lifestyle, curiosities and contrasts, music and acrobatics holds many surprises and turns SAYONARA TOKYO into an overwhelming and outstanding event which enthrals and fills the heart throughout the evening.
During its 25th jubilee year the new Wintergarten presents with SAYONARA TOKYO the most lavish show in its history – and one of the most unusual at the same time. A colourful kaleidoscope of Japanese scenes from everyday life and peculiarities between dance and acrobatics, live music and theatre, between kimono and cherry blossom, manga and anime. Sometimes visually impressive and ostentatious, sometimes plain and simply wonderful, and always with new surprises.
Japan is the land of smiles and of the rising sun. Neon-flooded mega cities, old temples and mystical villages in meditative silence – there is hardly any other place in the world with so many fascinating contrasts between tradition and modernity as in Japan. All of this comes magically alive in SAYONARA TOKYO.
Tokyo, Japan’s capital, is with its nearly 10 million inhabitants, always on the move. However, behind the next corner of a huge skyscraper an idyllic garden is waiting with a traditional shrine: the old culture is resting amidst modern hustle and bustle. Here perfectly styled hipster Japanese meet aesthetic zen masters and geishas in traditional kimonos, flashing billboards and booming music meet delicate pink cherry blossoms, the finest sushi delights and meditative tea ceremonies meet fancy mangas and animes.
SAYONARA TOKYO turns the Wintergarten into a theatre of smiles and the rising sun – under its famous starry sky.
